Penarth Pier ‐ Concrete Repairs to Sea Wall and Replacement of Timber Fenders

Working on behalf of Horan Construction and The Vale of Glamorgan Council, Churchill Specialist Contracting were employed to undertake extensive concrete repairs and replacement of the timber fenders and restraining chains to this Grade 2 listed Heritage Structure. The site is located along the Welsh Heritage coast line and is deemed a SSSI site (A Site of Special Scientific Interest).

The Solution

The works involved working closely with the fast moving coastal tides in order to repair the concrete fender pile caps. Repairs to the sea wall were completed utilising specialist sprayed concrete techniques. The timber fenders at the far end of the pier were replaced in their entirety like for like. Churchill’s core skill of steeplejack and rope access was key to delivering this project on time and importantly within budget.
