On the 24th July 2019 the UK experienced an unprecedented lightning event that covered almost the entire land mass of England & Wales. This event is clearly captured and visualised in the map below from LightningMaps.org.

The weather experienced during a 12 hour period, saw in excess of 48,000 lightning strikes to earth.

This weather event resulted in localised damage to property and infrastructure with a limited amount of disruption to the supply of power across the UK.

The lack of damage, injury and disruption resulting from in excess of 48,000 lightning strikes highlights the strength of the UK’s lightning protection installations and fully justifies the importance of safe guarding assets against the effects of lightning.
