Churchill’s Steeplejack division have been awarded the contract to replace the existing reinforced concrete boiler chimney located at United Biscuits UK headquarters and their largest production site at Hayes Park North London.
The project will first see a requirement for the installation of temporary flues to allow the boilers to remain operational throughout the removal of the reinforced concrete chimney, scheduled to take approximately 8 weeks.
The dismantling of the chimney will be undertaken using Churchills bespoke chimney demolition rig which removes the need to scaffold the chimney from ground level. This system has previously been safely employed to dismantle more than 100 industrial chimneys which the largest being 171 meters tall with a diameter at the summit of 8.5 meters.
Once the concrete chimney at United Biscuits has been removed a new 4 core steel multi flue chimney, manufactured off site will be transported from Nottingham to London and erected in the same location of the previous concrete chimney. All site work including dismantling and the erection of the new chimney and flues will all be completed by Churchill’s directly employed specialist work force with the only sub contract element being the mobile cranes required to dismantle and erect the chimneys.
