Churchill’s steeplejack division have successful completed the replacement of 2x paint shop chimneys, the inspection of 63 chimneys and remedial repairs to over 20 chimneys during the three week summer outage at BMW’s manufacturing facility at Oxford.
The location of the 2x paint shop chimneys to be replaced meant that options for lifting were limited due to the radius and space available at ground level. A self erecting tower crane provided the lifting solution and at the same time enabled the crane driver to keep visual contact with the team from his elevated cab position.
The Churchill skill set employed for this project included NVQ qualified steeplejacks, Class 1&2 scaffolders, Appointed Person & Slinger Signaller and coded welders demonstrating yet again the depth and diversity of the business.
